Hidden Strike is a fast-paced action thriller featuring lots of gunfights and martial arts. It is also a story of kindness, hope, and cooperation. Jackie Chan and John Cena both give standout performances in their first on-screen collaboration.

The movie’s director is Scott Waugh, who was also in charge of Need for Speed and Act of Valor.

Hidden Strike was made accessible on Netflix on July 28, 2023. It received mixed reviews from reviewers, but it was still a commercial success and one of the most watched films on Netflix during its opening weekend.

Jackie Chan’s character Luo Feng is deployed into a conflict zone to rescue a group of villagers. Veteran soldier Feng leads his well-trained soldiers into battle. John Cena’s Chris Van Horne is passionate about helping the kids in the isolated town in the midst of the desert. It does, however, show Cena’s dedication to his younger fans throughout the globe in reality.

It goes without saying that a fun action film starring Chan and Cena would be produced. Chan’s distinctive parkour-fu approach and Cena’s powerful brawler technique make the two intriguing to see together.

For better or worse, action films that defy logic and physics have become their own genre in Hollywood. Because this is the primary subject of the film, money was set aside in the budget for specific set pieces, particularly the one near the climax.

But despite the fact that the background soundtrack contains some elements from the now-iconic film “Mad Max: Fury Road,” it is obvious that director Scott Waugh was influenced by films like those in this. Unfortunately, because the green screen effects aren’t as perfectly keyed in as they ought to be, some sequences suffer the most from the poor VFX work.

Chan’s years of training in hand-to-hand combat, however, ensure extraordinary battle choreography. Despite getting older, he still manages to pull it off, particularly in one situation involving foam of all things. Cena, on the other hand, uses his ability to improvise and ad-lib lines to full advantage as he cracks jokes to defuse tension during his deadly confrontations.

Although neither of them is known for their award-winning acting, they are able to make scenes work by feeding off of each other’s excitement, which produces humorous outcomes. Both stars are irreplaceable due to their enormous star power, but that is to be expected from a movie that is so focused on celebrities and may result in a sequel if it goes well enough. Chan and Cena’s on-screen comic timing shines in “Hidden Strike,” a bland but enjoyable film.
