Review on Skullcandy Dime XT 2
The Dime True Wireless Earbuds from Skullcandy are advertised as “noise isolating” although any earbuds that tightly cover the ear canal are essential in isolating noise to some extent. The noise isolation will be considerably more effective if they manage to seal tightly. Don’t mistake these earbuds for those that employ active noise cancellation, while it is not that the assertion is inaccurate.
The lightweight plastic earpieces in mae black, blue, grey, or green provide a surprisingly snug in-ear fit. The earpieces and charging case’s plastic construction is so cheaply made it feels like a prototype. Beyond the Skullcandy branding on the earpiece’s outer surfaces, there are no further design flourishes. The earpieces come with three pairs of silicone ear tips in small, medium, and large. Generally, speaking when used with the appropriate ear tips, the earpiece form is sufficient to hold items in place.
When the earpieces are docked, the case’s cut-through lid opens to reveal the rubberized stems. The flip-top lid, which is made of lightweight plastic and is, as the cut-through panels suggest, almost there for show, is perhaps the least protective of any case we have tried. When the earpieces are not docked, the inside charging contacts are virtually exposed, so keep the case somewhere dry and secure when not in use. The provided charging cable fits into a micro USB connector on the rear panel of the device. The lanyard attached to one of the case’s rounded corners is the only small flair.
Although there is no app and the earphones are Bluetooth 5.0 compliant, this is expected given the price. The earpieces last four hours on a full charge, while the casing has an eight-hour capacity, according to Skullcandy, who also believes that the battery life will last around 12 hours overall. These figures are currently low for real wireless battery life, but once more, what can you expect at $25?
