The 1987 French/Italian film EXPLOITS OF A DON JUAN by Gianfranco Mingozzi.

His acknowledgment of the Marquis de Sade’s works in early 20th-century French literary circles is what made him most famous. Much of his own work, like De Sade’s, was prohibited (and virtually unknown) until the late 1960s.

Bombshell Italian sultry In this French-Italian sex comedy set during World War I, Serena Grandi plays the lead female role of a 15-year-old boy who impregnates three women, including his aunt, while all the men are gone in the trenches.

Don’t expect to see any particularly gorgeous French ladies here; instead, young Roger is more attracted to well-rounded, slightly older women like maids, aunts, and farm girls. The French continue to dominate the market for this type of sexual cinema. This mostly follows this pattern despite being directed by Italian Gianfranco Mingozzi, although occasionally it’s a bit of an unusual mix of the more generally French high-brow sensual delicacy and more low-brow, perhaps more traditionally Italian farce or slapstick. The cast has some wonderful female actors, and the men are superb at providing comic relief without trying to dominate the scene. The male lead was cast remarkably well. Instead of the typical aged Lothario, he would make a credible youthful “Don Juan” because he is young and attractive enough.

While not being sleazy, this movie is hilarious and seductive. I would like to see more films like this one. Sex is anticipated to be kept under wraps in the present Disney-dominated Hollywood for fear that it may taint our morals.

Today’s “erotic” filmmakers have to work with a limited budget and appear to believe that for sex on film to be memorable, it needs to be dirty, shocking, and explicit. While the most of those “dirty” movies are awful, some of them are actually rather wonderful.

I’ll stop now. I can wholeheartedly suggest this movie to everyone who enjoys laughter and doesn’t believe sex to be a terrible thing.
